Esmail Baghaei, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that Iran does not seek to receive "fees" from ships and countries for passing through the Strait of Hormuz, but navigation services and measures related to environmental protection in the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf, and the Sea of Oman require fees.
In a press conference on Monday, Baghaei said that the steps taken by Iran and Oman to develop a mechanism to ensure safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz were a “responsible” move in line with international law. He stressed that the costs associated with navigation services and environmental protection should not be interpreted as “passage obstacles.”
The Foreign Ministry spokesman also said that the security and safety of traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, in addition to its national importance for Iran and Oman, is also important for the international community, and Tehran and Muscat are developing a joint protocol in this regard.
