The World Meteorological Organization has announced that signs of the return of the El Niño phenomenon have been seen in the Pacific Ocean and its likelihood of formation in the coming months is assessed as high. According to the latest estimates, the phenomenon could continue until the end of this year and affect rainfall patterns and temperatures in many regions of the world.
What is El Nino?
El Niño is a natural climate cycle that typically occurs every 2 to 7 years. In this phenomenon, the waters of the Pacific Ocean become warmer than normal, and this seemingly simple change alters the flow of winds and precipitation systems in different parts of the world. The effects can range from drought and wildfires to floods and record heat.
